Piallassa (red desert chronicles) (2008)Adriano Zanni is a photographer, sound artist and field recordist from Ravenna. He began his career with the publication of music and electroacoustic compositions, working with various european record labels and constantly performing live.
He has created various photographic publications, collaborates with music and local information magazines in his area exploring the territory through photography. He also runs various visual diaries on a daily basis, focused on many different subjects, such as solitary trees, crumbling country houses, through a multidisciplinary approach.
His works have been part of contemporary art exhibitions, collective web art and video projects. He creates photographic exhibitions and installations where he occasionally also performs live, blending experimental electronic sounds, photographs and environmental recordings and making them interact with each other.
In recent years he has published Photographic Books and music for the record labels Bronson Recordings, Boring Machines, Under My Bed Recordings, 13/Silentes, Dissipatio.
On the 50th anniversary of Antonioni’s masterpiece The Red Desert, Adriano collected some of his thousands of shoots he made in the Piallassa area, where the movie was shot the year he was born. From this collection, Red Desert Chronicles (Postcards from Ravenna) took shape, a box containing 61 single black/white prints of the different aspects of the post-industrial area born on the seaside of Ravenna.
